The Chillicothe Girls Golf Team won their first district championship since 2005, shooting a team score of 389 on their own Green Hills Golf Course on Monday. Chillicothe beat Kirksville by 6 strokes to win the title. Both Chillicothe and Kirksville teams advance to Sectional competition.
For Chillicothe, Hallie Jones shot an 89, Maddie Lamp a 97, Riley Brobst a 99, Hannah Haakonstad a 104 and Gabby Hapes a 110.
Other area golf teams in the district included Brookfield 3rd, Gallatin 6th, Southwest Livingston County 8th and Penney of Hamilton 9th. Trenton competed but did not field a full team.
Hamilton’s Sam Cornelius was the medalist with a 74.
Other area golfers placing high enough to qualify for sectionals as a single competitor included Meredith Oesch of Southwest who tied for 14th overall, Werthen Gass and Maci Henson of Trenton, Laken Sattman, Demi Downey and Quinsey Lane all of Brookfield and Ally Jo Johnson and Jacklyn Maize of Gallatin.
A total of 12 teams competed at Districts.
