The Chillicothe Lady Hornets basketball team rolled up a big lead early and beat Lexington 69-17 in the opening round of the Class 3 District 14 post season basketball tournament being held all week in Chillicothe.
The Lady Hornets led 25-0 after the first quarter and led 31-0 before Lexington scored their first points with 3:25 left in the first half.
Chillicothe Coach Darren Smith said it’s not easy deciding when to send in subs when you have a big lead EARLY in the game.
Hunter Keithley led Chillicothe with 18 points, Brooke Horton with 10, Jordan Hibner with nine, Jessica Reeter and Essie Hicks each with eight, Lucy Reeter with five, Ellie Barnett with four, Selby Miller with three, Josie Reeter and Montana Plattner each with two points and playing time for Haley Kidd, Ella and Clara Leamer, Sophia Luetticke and Kaylee Munson.
Chillicothe is now 18-7 and on Wednesday, will face the Carrollton Lady Trojans which has a 17-8 record. Carrollton beat Higginsville 52-31. In the other two games, #2 seed Trenton beat Richmond 43-32 and #3 Brookfield beat St Paul Lutheran 48-41.
