MSHSAA Deals With COVID-19 concerns

Chillicothe spring athletes have more time off than planned with the cancellation of school for three weeks. According to a statement on the School District web site the cancellation, from March 17th until school resumes April 6th, is to limit the spread of the COVID-19 Coronavirus.
All extracurricular events, practices and use of Chillicothe R-II property for social gatherings have been cancelled or postponed.
Meanwhile, the Missouri State High School Activities Association said as of Monday, it is NOT canceling any spring sport championships. The office will stay in communication with state and local officials to help determine the possibility of holding the championships either as scheduled or rescheduling them as long as schools are still in session.
The statement also says that if a school is closing for a period of time due to the virus, NO practices or games should occur during that time.
Activities that are affected due to the virus include district music festivals for both large groups and solo and small ensembles as well as the State Music Festival will be cancelled. MSHSAA also cancelled the Class 4 and 5 Basketball semi-finals and championships for this school year due to the concerns over the virus.  MSHSAA said the decision was made in consultation with local and state officials as well as with member schools.
Class 1, 2 and 3 basketball championships were held over the weekend in front of regulated, small crowds.
