8-Man Championship Trophys

A month and a half ago, the Southwest Wildcats 8-man football team won a state football championship on Chillicothe’s field. Now, one local businessman is correcting an oversight.
For several years, the Missouri State High School Activities Association has approved a “Co-op” agreement between schools where one school that does not offer a certain sport, can co-op with a near by school that does offer the Sport.
For the Wildcats, this came into play this year with Hale and Tina-Avalon schools sending interested athletes to play football as members of the Southwest team.
However, Chillicothe businessman Scott Lindley, checked and discovered that MSHSAA presented only one state championship trophy, which went to the Southwest school.
Lindley told KCHI Sports that after checking with all parties, he is making sure State Championship trophies will also be presented to Hale and Tina Avalon schools.
Lindley was a member on one of Chillicothe’s State Championship teams. He says he still remembers the feeling of seeing the State Championship trophy every day at school.
The presentation will take place early this afternoon at the two schools.
