Hornets Football Wins Opener

The Chillicothe Football team used a ground and pound offense and a stingy defense to open the season with a 27-8 win at Marshall.
Chillicothe scored in the first quarter on a Damarcus Kelow 24 yard run and in the second quarter on a 2 yard keeper by Gage Leamer.
They closed out the first half with a 12-play 79-yard drive that ended with a five yard touchdown run from Freshman Silas Midgyett to lead 21-0 at halftime.
The Hornets final score came in the third on a Leamer 6 yard run. The conversion failed.
Marshall scored in the fourth quarter an 8-yard touchdown and two point conversion.
On defense the Hornets held Marshall to 113 yard rushing, with 78 of those yards on 2 plays late in the game. In the air, Marshall was 2 of 3 for 34 yards.
The Hornets Defense also an interception and a fumble recovery.
Chillicothe featured a strong running game with 303 yards on 50 caries, led by Damarcus Kelow’s 11 carries for 122 yards.
Chillicothe will host Kirksville next Friday.
