Hornets Advance in Cameron Tournament

The Chillicothe hornets are headed to the consolation round of the Cameron tournament with a win Thursday over the Kansas City Northeast Vikings 44 to 26. The Vikings scored 16 points in the first quarter but only added 10 to it throughout the rest of the game. Coach Tim Cool said he was concerned with Northeast because they are very quick and good with the ball, but he said the Hornets showed great defense and played teamwork. Cool said he was very proud of his team who came out playing harder and smarter after the first quarter by taking away northeast’s first and best option. That made the Vikings go to their second choice and that really changed the game.  Cool mentioned sophomore players that played that stepped up tonight and are learning and improving by playing these games.  He also praised specifically the only senior on the squad, Chase Corbin, who came off the bench and was a huge part of the game

Chillicothe was led by James Mathew with a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, followed by Wyatt Brandsgaard with 12 points and nine rebounds. Griff Bonderer with nine points, Landon Winder with five, Jackson Trout and Chace Corbin both with three and playing time for Alijah Hibner with playing time.

The Hornets will play in the consolation round of the Cameron tournament this evening against Lawson at 7 PM in the middle school gym. The Hornets are 11 and five in this on the season and 1 and 0 in the conference.
