Chillicothe Boys Tennis Captures District Title, Beats Trenton 5-4

The Chillicothe boys tennis team is the champion of MSHSAA’s Class 1 District 15!

In the district final, the Hornets took on the Trenton Bulldogs whom they had seen twice earlier in the year and split the series.

Chillicothe went down 2-1 after doubles play. Their lone win came from their individual sectional qualifying duo of Emmett Young and Gabe Peterson who downed their opponent 8-0.

Chace Corbin secured his 20th singles victory of the year by defeating Trent Villacampa, 6-3, 6-3.

Back-to-back match losses followed for Gabe Peterson and Emmett Young.  The Hornets tailed 4 matches to 3 at this point, and needed the final two games to break their way.

Jackson Reeter tied up the meet at 4 matches a piece by beating Jacob Horton 6-1, 6-3.

The district championship came down to a final singles match between Jadon Collins of Chillicothe and Victor Markell of Trenton. Collins lost the first 5 games of the match before rattling off 11 game wins in a row; propelling him to a 7-5, 6-4 victory for himself, and a 5-4 team win over Trenton on the road.

Next up for boys tennis is the individual district sectionals on May 13th. Chace Corbin will compete in the singles bracket while Emmett Young and Gabe Peterson will play in doubles of the Trenton-hosted competition.
