Kelow Wins 2 State Titles as CHS Track and Field Competes in State

The Hornets are headed back to Chillicothe with two state championships after the state track and field competition at Jefferson City High School this past weekend.

Damarcus Kelow not only took the state’s highest mark in discus on Friday, but also stood atop the podium in shot put as well.  The 2022 graduate caps off an impressive senior season with a state-best 17.02 meter toss, and is now a 3 time state champ.

Also in Saturday’s action, the 4 by 800 meter relay team of Jolie Bonderer, Kayla Cakranata, Kayanna Cranmer and Kadence Shipers finished in 11th place with a time of just over 10:23. Tristan Forck finished 14th in high jump after clearing 1.87 meters, and Cy Evans took 16th in javelin with his best throw landing at 41.77 meters.

The boys team secured 12th place in the state after compiling 20 points from Kelow’s performances.  The girls team, which did not have a podium placement, did not place in the competition.

In case you missed Friday’s action, Charles Walker took 14 in pole vault, Braxten Johnson finished 14th in the prelims of the boys 300 meter hurdles, and Kayanna Cranmer took 11th in the final of the girls 800 meter run and narrowly missed qualifying for the final of the girls 400 meter dash after taking 9th in the prelims by just .17 seconds.
