Hornets Soccer Falls To Maryville 5-0

The Chillicothe High School Boys Soccer team traveled to the campus of Northwest Missouri State University on Tuesday evening where they took on the Maryville Spoofhounds. The Spoofhounds took down the Hornets 5-0.

Maryville took a 2-0 lead into the halftime break with two goals from junior defenseman Lane Hazen.

The Spoofhounds tacked on three more in the second half with goals from freshman Tuan Jacobson, senior Truett Haer, and senior Quinn Pettlon.

Chillicothe goalkeeper James Matthew was in net for the entire first half and for the first 22 minutes of the second half. He surrendered three goals but had 21 saves. Senior Carson Steele came in for the final 18 minutes, surrendering two goals but manufacturing two saves.

Coach Tim Cunningham talked about his team’s play after the game. “A very experienced and talented Maryville team took advantage of our inexperienced but improving squad.  We are continuing to learn and understand what it takes to play at high level against a challenging schedule.  We are going to continue to get better, together.”

Chillicothe moves to 2-3 on the young season, and will be back in action in the Moberly Spartan Invitational starting on Friday.
