Planting Progress And Storm Issues

A warm and fairly dry spring has provided many area producers an opportunity to make significant progress on planting both corn and soybeans.  Raysha Tate, the Livingston County FSA Executive Director, says the weekend rainfall may present a problem for some growers, especially in the low areas.

A lot depends on how mature the plant is and how long it is underwater.

Tate says some producers may need to replant after talking with the Crop Insurance representatives, but the crop planting windows are growing shorter.  The USDA Risk Management Agency sets the end of the planting window.  For Corn, it is May 20th to the 31st.  For soybeans, the window closes June 20th.
