Shaffer Park Parking Issued Addressed In Council Meeting

Parking issues at Shaffer Park were discussed at this week’s Chillicothe City Council meeting.  Parks Director Josh Norris provided options that are not in the current budget.

The first option included the elimination of the shelter and small playground to the west of the ball field and creating a larger paved parking area that includes handicapped stalls.

  • Pros: adding 39 new parking spots for a total of 86, near the main entrance and could eliminate parking on Mack Street
  • Cons: removal of the playground and shelter and trees

The cost is estimated at $105,000.

The second option is to improve the current overflow parking area south of the restrooms, on the 1st base line.

  • Pros: add 36 parking spots
  • Cons: Distance to the entrance, in the foul ball zone; parking could be tight; and fans may choose to park elsewhere

The estimated cost is $75,000 paved or $23,000 unpaved.

The city is checking on relocating the shelter to an area behind the Chillicothe Housing buildings.

No other decisions were made at that time.
