Don’t Pass The Sheriff If You’re Running Late for Court

If you are running late for court in another county, don’t speed past Livingston County Sheriff Steve Cox.

Thursday morning, Sheriff Cox was near Wheeling on US 36, when a vehicle headed east was quickly approaching him from behind and was about to pass.  Cox says there were obvious activities going on the in the vehicle when they saw they were about to pass him.   Cox made the stop on the vehicle with Texas plates and found two Kansas residents in the vehicle.  He also noted various problems with the registration, insurance, and driver’s license status.

Upon further investigation Cox seizure of a good amount of alleged Methamphetamine and quantity of drug paraphernalia and distribution items.  He arrested 49 year old David Loren LaPiere and 33 year old Ashley Dawn Michelle Watkins, both of Arma, Kansas.  They are charged with alleged Possession of Controlled Substance-Methamphetamine, with bond set at $15,000 each.

The two had explained they were in a hurry to get to court in Linn County, as one of them had a scheduled appearance.
