Chillicothe City Attorney Says Remove Snow From Sidewalk

Chillicothe City Attorney Robert Cowherd reminds Chillicothe residents they have a responsibility to shovel their sidewalks following a snow storm.  That includes both in the residential areas and in the business district.

Property owners can be cited and fined.  Police Chief Jon Maples says they would rather educate the public, but could write tickets if necessary.

  • I’d like to see the statute on this, this really looks like Chillicothe trying to produce some revenue through shady means. If Chief Maples would kindly send me the statute and when said statute was instated my email is cgderrickson65301@gmail.com

  • Many residents are too old or physically disabled. You people don’t know all the people in your community. Should have put sidewalks in at the North end of town. Until the city puts sidewalks on all streets in Chillicothe, there should be no fines for any residents. Only in the public areas should the snow be removed. We get tourists so having the square cleared of snow is important.

  • We don’t need your threats. Use of fear tactics such as this is contrary to the spirit of a free American people. Do as I say or else is for the communists

  • Well isn’t he a jerk

  • I would like to see our city worry more about street improvements than sidewalks. Why don’t we fix our streets instead of building more sidewalks? The potholes are bad now just think how bad they will be after winter. The city patches the holes but it is only a temporary fix.

  • I wonder if this applies to private walkways if they connect to a public sidewalk.

  • Just curious if the city is responsible for repairing damage caused by snow removal trucks. Yards for a few neighbors have been wrecked.

    • They should contact the Chillicothe Street Department at 646-3811

    • Yes they are responsible, had it happen to us once. They fixed it once I reported it, they checked it out and of course I had the proof, picture of the truck getting stuck. It was an easy process…
