A change to the speed limit on Washington Street could happen soon. The city of Chillicothe requested changing the speed limit from 25 to 35 miles per hour in the area south of 1st Street and over the viaduct. City Administrator Darin Chappell told the City Council recently that MoDOT has approved the change.
Chappell says there are already problems with some people exceeding the speed limit in that area, and they will be enforcing the new speed limit when the change is made.
The speed limit over the viaduct is currently set to 25 miles per hour. It has not changed yet and until the change is approved by the city council, the police department will enforce it at the 25 miles per hour limit.
