  • Yeah, we think it’s safe out here in the boonies, but look at Sullivan County & realize there is the Chinese-owned meatpacking plant up there that is less interested in worker safety than in corporate profits.

On a separate note, regarding availability of meat, check with Chillilcothe Meat Locker (formerly Singer’s). I’ve not had a steer for decades since moving off the farm & have no connection to CML, but I’d heard a few things from friends at Lathrop, so called CML. They are booked up into March (Smithville is apparently booked into October). When I called–just for information, because there’s so little real journalism out here in the boonies these days (not like when Charles Watkins & Bill Plummer ran things), ChillicotheMeat Locker said they no longer sell retail (too busy with the slaughter end), but they have several area producers using their USDA-inpsected slaughter operation & selling meat retail. Time to support local farmers & processing operations.
