Small Plane Down Near Dawn Thursday Afternoon

A report of a small plane down, somewhere southwest of Chillicothe Thursday afternoon had the Chillicothe Fire Department, Missouri Highway Patrol, Livingston County Sheriff’s Department and area first responders looking for the plane.  Just before 4:00 pm, dispatch received a report from the FAA of a possible aircraft down, 7 – 10 miles southwest of Chillicothe.  The departments, along with private aircraft, the Airport Director Bill Keiffer and Life Flight worked to find the plane.  A deputy was able to make contact with the pilot by cell phone and they finally narrowed the search and located the plane in a field on the Jones Farm, southeast of Dawn.

The report from the Sheriff’s office states the Pilot from Wisconsin was uninjured.  The plane’s engine stalled and the pilot found a hay field and landed in a field, where he had gotten into a fence line.  There was also a reported fuel leak.

The incident remains under investigation by the FAA and Missouri Highway Patrol.
