Martin Luther King Day Will Be A Make-Up Day For Chillicothe

The Chillicothe R-II School District already has three days to make up in their calendar due to last weeks flooding.  The School Board looked at the calendar and the first make-up day will be January 21st, Martin Luther King Day.  Superintendent Dr Roger Barnes says that was part of the calendar approved by the board last December and already shared with the other school districts that send students to Chillicothe.

The School Board did consider moving the first make-up day and not having school on January 21st, but that disrupts the other districts.  They did look at making Martin Luther King Day a “no touch” day off in the future and that will be part of the discussions when the 2019/20 calendar is prepared.

Barnes says the other two make-up days on the calendar are April 18th and 22nd.  Barnes says if the district has additional “Snow Days”, those would be made up at the end of the school year.

Barnes says it is unusual the district would use this many make-up days before we get into the winter weather situations.
