FIRST IMPACT Offered Free In Chillicothe

A program to prepare parents for their child becoming a new driver will be presented later this month in Chillicothe.  FIRST IMPACT is a FREE 90-minute program presented by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office and the Missouri Department of Transportation.  FIRST IMPACT will be presented at the Gary Dickenson Performing Arts Center October 30th, beginning at 6:00 pm.

This 90-minute evidence-based traffic safety program educates parents about Missouri’s Graduated Driver’s License (GDL) law, with a goal of reducing new driver crashes and their resulting injuries and fatalities, by increasing parental awareness and enforcement of Missouri’s GDL law.

Objectives of the program are to increase:

  • Awareness of teen driving risks
  • Understanding of Missouri’s GDL law
  • GDL monitoring and enforcement at home
  • Importance of being a positive role model

First Impact provides the tools parents need to monitor, coach and support their new teen driver. It features a video and discussion to promote the importance of parents and teens working together to reduce teen crashes, injuries and fatalities.

It also helps to ensure parents understand the risks and responsibilities associated with driving is essential in preventing teen driving tragedies.
