Area School District Awarded Free School Bus

One area School District will receive a free school bus sometime this school year. The Missouri Department of Natural Resources announced 29 school districts have been identified as “financially disadvantaged” are eligible for Volkswagen Trust Funds to cover 100% of the cost for a new bus.
The announcement stated many of the districts would not normally qualify for bus replacement awards due to the cost share requirements.
Of the 29 school districts on the list, the first five receive a free buss this school year. The Breckenridge School District is number four on that list of 29.
Districts 6 through 13 will receive funds for a bus in the 2020 fiscal year. The remaining 16 districts will have an option for a 50% cost share in the future.
School districts receiving a new bus will be required to permanently disable their old bus, effectively reducing emissions.
