The Drug Take Back Box at the Chillicothe Police Department is now available to collect excess or expired prescription or over the counter medications. The Drug Take Back Box is the Eagle Scout project for Edison Turner from Troop 120. The box is installed and secured to the floor at the Police Department, in the entrance. Chief Jon Maples says it is a welcome addition to the department.
Turner started the project in June after noticing large quantities of medications that were expired, just sitting around at home. He asked if there was a place to get rid of them and found there was not.
The box is secured and requires two different keys to empty the storage area. Chief Maples says they have two evidence officers, and each has one of the keys. When the items are removed from the box they are taken and incinerated.
