As we age at home, it is more important to find ways to protect ourselves from falls.  Sarah Wood, nutrition and health specialist for the University of Missouri Extension service says more than 1/3 of those over 65 experience a fall, and those over 75 that have fallen may need the assistance found in a nursing home…

Wood says the National Institute on aging provides several tips on how you can protect yourself from falls.  Wood says this begins with taking care of yourself.

Wood also has other suggestions.

She says finally, reduce trip hazards in your home, including loose carpeting and area rugs and avoid rugs that can slip on smooth surfaces or use a non-slip mat under them.
