Propane Cylinder Fire In 1400 Block of Clay Street

A propane tank fire was reported Wednesday evening at 1414 Clay Street.  The call came in at about 6:12 pm and the Chillicothe fire crew arrived three minutes later to find a 40-pound propane bottle in the front yard.  The resident told firefighters they were connecting a heater in the house and when they turned the bottle on, it shot flames out of the regulator/connector area.

The fire crew used a fog pattern on the bottle to start cooling the bottle and as the bottle cooled, they were finally able to turn off the gas valve.

The man trying to hook the heater up was able to drag the bottle off the front porch and into the front yard.  He stated that he had some blister’s starting to show up on his hands.

The family was advised to open windows to air out the house that still smelled of gas.  They were also told to not use that type of bottle inside the home.

The fire crew was on the scene for about 25 minutes
