Recorder Of Deeds Warns Of SCAM

Livingston County property owners and those around the area may have received a letter offering a copy of their grant deed and property assessment profile for $87.00 or more.  The Livingston County Recorder of Deeds Amy Baker says this is a scam.  Baker says the company with a Jefferson City mailing address has mailed the offer to residents of Livingston County.  This company is in no way affiliated with a government office.  Baker says if you need these documents, you can get them for a fraction of that cost, directly from her office.

Baker says most property owners obtain their original property deed when their property is purchased. Additional copies may be obtained directly from the County.  County fees are $1 per page, plus $1 for certification.  She says most property deeds are no more than one or two pages long and the total cost would be less than $5.

If you are interested in a copy of the documents, you can call the Recorder’s Office at 646-8000 extension 6 or stop by the Recorder’s Office on the second floor of the courthouse.
