Stimulus Payments Could Bring Out Scammers

The Chillicothe Police Department reminds area residents to be mindful of scams and attempted scams.

The Federal Government will soon begin issuing stimulus payments to Americans in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Chillicothe Police Department anticipates this will lead to opportunistic scammers.  The Treasury Department and IRS will NEVER call anybody asking for banking information to get your money to you. If someone calls asking these questions, it’s a scam. The police ask you to get the name and phone number of the scammer, if you can, so we can try to track them.

If you are expecting a check in the mail, you can sign up with the post office to track the mail you are supposed to receive.
