Police Department Budget Amended

The City Council approved an amendment to the city budget for the police department.  The amendment includes revenues of approximately $140,000 from the new Police Department Sales Tax.  The funding is projected for about 3 months of collections.  The expenditures will include a variety of police-related expenses, from the boarding of prisoners to office supplies to new equipment for the officers.  The equipment planned includes weapons, vests, vehicles, and items related to the new K9.

The Council approved the amended budget on a vote of 3/0.

The City Administrator told the council the expected annual revenue from the tax is expected to be near $430,00 a year.  Anything remaining at the end of the year will go into surplus.  They hope to set aside about $100,000 a year.
