The hopes for a Chillicothe Softball District Championship ended Saturday in a 5 to 4 District Championship loss at home to Savannah.
Chillicothe tied the score at 4-apiece at the bottom of the sixth, but Savannah hit a home run in the top of the seventh. Chillicothe couldn’t answer in the bottom of the seventh and saw their season come to an end.
Coach Lee Rucker said “Both teams are really talented and traded punches the whole game.” He said after losing the first four games on the season, they responded by winning 16 out of their next 18 games.
The team will lose Seniors Brooke Horton and Mollie Ellis.
In the game, Chillicothe was led by Home Runs from Kinlei Boley and Mika Hibner, and singles from Mollie Ellis, Brooke Horton and Halle Rucker.
Chillicothe scored four runs off five hits with two errors.
Boley suffered the loss, allowing five runs, two earned, off eight hits with two errors, five strikeouts and just two walks.
The Lady Hornets finished 16 and 6 on the season. Savannah advances to the state tournament with just one loss, 10-0 to the Lady Hornets.
Several Chillicothe Lady Hornets softball team members were named to the Class 3, District 8 all district team.
First Team honors went to Pitcher Kinlei Boley, Catcher Hope Helton, Outfielders Sophia Luetticke and Mika Hibner, and Infielder Kirsten Dunn.
Second team honors went to Pitcher Halle Rucker, Outfielder Mollie Ellis and Infielder Brooke Horton.
