8-Run 7th Lifts Maryville Over Chillicothe on Senior Night.

The Hornets baseball team welcomed Maryville in to Shaffer Park for a rescheduled game on Wednesday night.

Chillicothe celebrated their seniors Brock Ward and Gage Leamer as well as their senior team managers Delaney Francis, Abby Hecker and Clara Leamer.

Chillicothe’s starting pitcher, Landon Winder was great in his 4 innings as he retired the first eight batters he faced. He would allow 3 runs on 3 hits, 2 walks and 3 strikeouts.

The game was deadlocked at 0 for the first 3 innings before the scoring opened up in the 4th.  Maryville plated 3 powered by a two RBI double for Don Allen and a single from Boston Hageman the drove in a run.

Chillicothe would tack on a run in the 4th after Brock Miller led the inning off with a triple and Winder brought him home with a single.

In the 5th, the Spoofhounds only mustered one run on an RBI ground out for Cooper Loe.

The Hornets struck big in the bottom of the 5th to grab 4 runs off of the Spoofhounds, Adam Patton.  On their senior night, Ward and Leamer were both able to contribute to the rally by reaching on Maryville errors and then later scoring. CHS would bat around in the inning and take a 5-4 lead in to the 6th.

Maryville would quickly regain the scoring advantage on a double from Canon Creason that scored two.  That made it 6-5.  The Hornets would go without scoring in the 6th.

As the game entered the 7th inning, the Hornets trailed by a run, but then the Spoofhounds exploded for 8 runs in the top of that 7th inning. They sent 14 batters to the plate.

The last at bats for the Hornets featured two 1-out walks, but runs never came to fruition.

Chillicothe would fall 14-5 on senior night. They’ll play Benton on May 5, weather permitting.
