Hornets Baseball Taken Out in Opening Round of Districts

In the opening round of the Class 4 District 16 baseball tournament Monday night the Chillicothe Hornets squared off with the Maryville Spoofhounds at Phil Welch Stadium in St. Joseph.

Maryville was the first to strike; plating three runs in the bottom of the first on a couple of base knocks. They would carry a lead for the rest of the game.

The Hornets would manage just four base runners all game with only one of them coming via a Brock Ward base hit. The others were walks for Brock Miller, Landon Winder and Justin Pyle.

Chillicothe’s starter, Gage Leamer last two innings giving up three runs on three hits and two walks.  He did strike out two.

Maryville would add one run in the 4th and 6 in the 5th to evoke the 10-run rule with a final score of 10-0; concluding the Hornets season.

Chillicothe wrapped the season with a record of 6-16.  Their batting champ is the senior, Brock Ward who finished the season with a .339 batting average and an OPS of .921. Ward also led the team in on base percentage, walks, doubles and plate appearances.

Amongst pitchers with 10 or more innings this season, Gage Leamer had the lowest ERA at 3.89 in 41.1 innings pitched.
