One Dead, Five Injured In Accident In Lafayette County

An accident in Lafayette County Thursday afternoon took the life of a Waverly woman and left four others with moderate and serious injuries.  68-year-old Betty Dyer of Waverly died at the scene of the accident that happened on US 24 at about 1:55 pm.  According to the Highway Patrol, Dyer was a passenger in a vehicle driven by 28-year-old Jessica Williams of Alma, who was eastbound and swerved to avoid a vehicle driven by 65-year-old James Frazier of Waverly, who was westbound on US 24 and crossed the center line.  The Williams vehicle was struck on the side.  Her car went off the road and overturned, hitting a road sign.

Frazier had serious injuries in the accident and was flown to Truman Medical Center in Kansas City.

Williams and her remaining passengers, 1-year-old Layton Cooper of Waverly and 33-year-old Charles Karras of Alma, were taken to Lafayette County Regional Hospital for treatment.
