Semi Destroyed By Fire Near Chillicothe airport

A westbound semi near the Chillicothe Airport was destroyed by fire Saturday evening.  Chillicothe firefighters received the call at about 5:50 pm and arrived in eight minutes to find the semi-tractor fully involved, and heavy black smoke rolling out of the cab.

Deputies and state troopers blocked traffic in both directions due to the amount of smoke.  The fire department used nearly 2,500 gallons of water and foam to put out the fire.  The fire crew was on the scene for about an hour.

The driver told officers he was westbound when he saw the smoke and pulled over.  He says, once stopped, the fire progressed.  He was the only one in the truck and was not injured.
